The nature of job is changing at a rapid race. Perhaps now more then ever before, job stress poses a threat to the health of workers. Job stress may be caused by a complex set of reasons. Some of the most visible causes of workplace stress are:
- Demand of Performance: Today, in every job whether its a clerk or accountant or any technical job, there is a competition. To beat this competition, everybody tries to work hard to proof yourself and show highest level of performance. Hence they are ready to take unreasonable pressures, extra workload, working long hours etc. All this adds to stress.
- Job Insecurity: Economic transformation or economy slowdowns always results in direct impact on workplace. The mergers and takeovers also results in employees being sacked.
- Office Culture: Adjusting to your workplace culture - peers, juniors, bosses, heirarchy, dresscodes, rules & regulations, political gossips etc has always been stressful.
- Job Profile: If you current job role is a matter of compromise for you, it will be difficult to handle your job assignment. Your compromise will lead to lack of motivation, running away from work behaviour which will later lead to performance and job insecurity factor and hence you will be stressed.
- Sex Discrimination: Many-a-times it has been found that opposite sex boss-subordinate relationship affects other employees in the group. Result of which, other members feel left-out and unseen for their work & efforts and feel stressed. Since long, sexual harassment in workplace has been a major source of worry for women.
