Discipline - an important subject of everyone's life. Make your kid learn the importance of discipline in life right from his childhood age. Here are some general tips to help you build discipline in your kids :

  • Encourage / Praise
Encourage good behaviour of your child. This will help them to feel confident and repeating the same thing again.

  • Scold for bad behaviour & leave
Absolutely acceptable if you are scolding for their bad behaviour. But leave the topic after you have scolded them. Let them move ahead. Do not let that scold make a home in their mind.

  • Give them choices
Rather than pressuring the kids to do a particular thing (as per your mindset), give them choices. Kids feel independent and this of repeated action of yours, will increase the level of indepence of selecting things.

  • Build a reward system
Same as we have appraisal and pay increment system, there should a reward system for kids too. In your workplace you have this kind of system running once in a year or twice. But with kids it should be for every GOOD behaviour. The reward may be a good tight hug or lots of kisses or a special toffee(of his choice) etc.

  • Don't argue or repeated commands
Don't argue for punishments or saying sorrys. Don't repeat same scolding in a repeated manner in one go. That may create a negative impact too. Give punishment and ask to finish that punishment. If not done, give them the second consequence. If still not done, implement the consequence. Now don't try to make them do the same punishment forcefully.

  • Instant action
Act instantly for both good and bad behaviours. Praise and punish then & there at the time of event. Do not wait for it.

  • Prepare a schedule
Prepare a schedule for your kids which they can follow easily for their meals, bath, playing time, sleeping time. Follow that. Make your kids to follow that daily schedule.

  • Consistency
Very important of all. Be consistent in whatever tips you follow. You yourself should not break them.
